Amboseli – a barren land with acacia forest and seasonal swamps… The area forms part of the ancient “embosel’ ecosystem (the Sinya Steppe) at the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here the elder elephants retreat to live out their final years, lion, cheetah and other wild cats abound, rhino… It was here where long ago, elephants were killed for tusks that each weighed 50 kg, until hardly any were left. It was here that rhinos were hunted to extinction for their horn. It is here that the remaining animals are still being hunted, killed, poisoned for different reasons, dying of thirst and hunger during periods of drought…
